And here is Shula again. It's hard to sketch her other than asleep as she is quite mobile and our house is not baby-proofed so I have to be ready to jump up at any minute. To think - there used to be playpens.

Love the colours ... must be fun (but hard work too!) having a baby in the house ...

So cute and colourful.
I haven't seen playpens in homes lately but they were useful to keep a kid safely inside. One of my grandkids was eleven last week and I still remember his first steps when he had just turned one. He was chubby and I was in Fiji at the time. Now he's tall and lanky!

A little papoose! How sweet. Say hi to N for me. Do you mean there aren't playpens anymore? I didn't realize that. There are so many amazing gadgets and accessories for babies these days. P.S. I mentioned and linked to you in my blog today.

i was surfing through the blogging world and found you at http://janabouc.wordpress.com/
Wondeful paintings and sketches- very inspiring for this new artist. You captured the sweetness and peacefulness of a baby sleeping - so soft and contoured.

Jana's right, this is a little papoose. The quilt is wonderful--is
the pattern really like that or did you design one for the picture. And
if it's like that, did you make the quilt?

I find myself all inhibited when with my little and lovely Aussie grandson, can't draw. And I have wondered aloud about playpens being out of favour.

Annie, it's a thin indian cotton sort of quilt - I sketched the outlines while the baby was asleep but I painted it from memory - in realit it's not so bright and probably has more pattern. Playpens are still available and lots of grannies still heve them from their own kids but babies aren't trained to play in them, -or left to scream in them these days, I think.
